was founded in 1908 and is the biggest Czech institution specializing in technical museum exhibits. It gathers collections of material evidence of technological developments, industry, transport, architecture, and both Czech and foreign scientific reseach. There are single copies in the collections of the National Technical Museum such as astronomical appliances from the 16th century used by Tycho de Brahe, the first Czech automobile or one of the oldest daguerretypes in the world. The museum’s collections also include an extensive history archive of technology, science, industry, architecture, civil engineering, and a library.
The National Technical Museum is one of the oldest technical museums in Europe, with which it is also comparable in terms of the size and value of its collections. It has the status of a Central Museum of the Czech Republic and a scientific centre with documentary, presentation, methodological and information functions in the science and technology field.
